Tunisia, January 2007
Ten days and 2400 kilometers around Tunisia, on and off road, but specially off the main routes, trying to escape the year end crowds of tourists (but reckoning we were tourists as well) and trying to understand the country and his people.
It was a rewarding trip, especially for me that I somehow preferred in the past other north african countries, such as Morocco and Libya.
If you manage to stay away from the main destinations, and you look for those places where the coaches cannot arrive, you will then discover the real character of the people, very reserved, but extremely friendly and hospitable.
We made many encounters along the way, Monsieur Rauf and his wife (see the picture in the gallery), who manage a tiny restaurant in Douiret, the ksar (village) of Ezzarah and his students, and many others. But we also enjoyed day-long rides across the desert and the chott (salt lakes), without meeting anyone for hours.

A reportage of this trip appeared on April ’07 issue of the Italian magazine “In Moto”, with photos from myself, Manuel Presti and Carla Timpani.
